Haldi and mehendi are often scheduled back-to-back — sometimes even the same day — which is exactly why couples mix them up. They're both pre-wedding celebrations, both heavily photographed, and both a little more relaxed than the wedding itself. But the mood, palette and props are actually quite different.
Haldi is the ceremony where turmeric paste is applied to the bride and groom (often separately, at their own homes or a shared venue) as a purification ritual and for its skin-brightening properties. It's messy, joyful and unpretentious by design — which shapes the decor completely.
Mehendi is where henna is applied to the bride (and often the wedding party) in intricate patterns — a process that can take hours per person. That changes the whole design brief: this needs to be a space guests can comfortably sit in for a long time, not just a photo moment.
When both events happen on the same day or in the same venue, we usually stagger the color transition rather than forcing two clashing palettes into one space — starting the morning in warmer haldi tones and shifting the same space into jewel-toned mehendi styling for the evening, reusing structural elements (drape frames, seating risers) but swapping florals, cushions and lighting. It's more efficient than building two completely separate setups, and it lets both moments still feel distinct in photos.
We design turmeric-safe haldi setups and lounge-style mehendi decor that holds up for hours.
